Abstract

Purpose: This study maps the evolution, intellectual structure, and emerging research fronts of risk management and financial stability research in emerging economies.

Methods: A bibliometric analysis of 612 Scopus-indexed journal articles published across 243 sources between 2000 and 2025 was conducted using performance analysis, co-citation analysis, bibliographic coupling, keyword co-occurrence, thematic mapping, and thematic evolution.

Findings: Four interconnected knowledge domains were identified: banking-sector risk and soundness; financial inclusion, competition, and market structure; systemic risk and interconnectedness; and institutional quality and macroprudential governance. Recent research increasingly emphasizes stress testing, network contagion, digital finance, technology-enabled risk, and crisis resilience.

Implications: The findings highlight the need for system-wide risk monitoring, context-sensitive financial-inclusion policies, stronger regulatory coordination, and innovation-aware supervision in emerging economies.

Originality: The study distinguishes the fields established intellectual foundations from its contemporary research fronts and integrates micro-, meso-, and macro-level perspectives into a unified research agenda.
